Architect
Katelyn Finn '95
Katelyn Finn has been purposefully pursuing her goals ever since she left The Delphian
School in 1995 as a proud graduate. "I always knew I wanted to be an architect,"
she says with certainty, " and I made that a reality."
Delphi students often give a one-word description of the Delphi Program: challenging.
The rigors of the program foster a sense of purpose and strong determinism in students
by assigning them responsibility for their own education. From the very beginning,
there are high expectations for students to overcome barriers and face their challenges
head-on.
Kate is a good example of a graduate demonstrating this ability. She first attended
the Art Institute of Seattle, where she obtained an Associates of Applied Arts degree
in Interior Design and graduated with honors. She then moved on to Pratt Institute
in New York for a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, once again graduating with
honors. She is now working as a project manager for a New York architectural firm
specializing in high-end and multi-dwelling residences in Manhattan. Kate frequently
finds herself juggling numerous large-scale residential projects while dealing closely
with both owners and vendors. She says the confidence she gained at Delphi helped
her a great deal.
"I would say that it's natural for many graduates of the Delphi program to have
the idea they are invincible, and that confidence is a good thing." Kate explains,
"because each graduate overcomes amazing obstacles at Delphi. But I've realized
it's also healthy to go out and see that you aren't invincible — even though we
all became extraordinarily capable at the high school level. I look back and I'm
very thankful Delphi helped prepare me as realistically as possible for the challenges
that were ahead in higher education and life."
Well said, Kate. Our "construction hats" are off to you for pursuing professionalism
in your career and meeting the challenges of building a better world through architecture.
