"When I graduated from Delphi there was never any doubt in my mind that the decision
to study there was the best one I had ever made. And I still feel that way. I had
a great foundation in terms of my education and had truly gained the ability to
educate myself for the rest of my life," recounts Jem Schofield, 1990 graduate of
The Delphian School.
Using his combined aptitude for art, business and technology, Jem launched a website
development business focused on branding solutions. Ten years later, it has become
a full-service creative company focusing on a wide range of multimedia solutions.
In addition to doing graphic and web design, Jem's company now produces and edits
videos, designs and authors DVDs, and provides motion graphics for film trailers.
Among his current clients are Apple® Computer and Rutgers University.
In addition to this, Jem has become a teacher of sorts. Specifically, he became
trained and certified with Apple to teach classes on several of their professional
video production and post-production applications. As an Apple Master Trainer, he
not only teaches end users how to use these programs, but also teaches others to
become Apple Certified Trainers. Going a step further, he is writing a book for
a major computer book publisher on one of Apple's multimedia applications.
Jem feels his fondness for teaching traces back to a project he did while a student
at Delphi. When he was sixteen, Jem taught English-as-a-Second Language during a
summer school program in Oregon. He found that he really loved teaching, and that
the experience planted the seed for a life-long desire to teach and help others.
"A lot of people don't put real importance on education, and it's probably one of
the biggest faults of our society," he says. "Education really lays the groundwork
for a person to be able to do what he or she really wants in life—and that's what
Delphi gave me."
