Commencement 2004
Alex Horton
"At one point in my life, I used to think free time was of the greatest importance.
I used to think I knew everything. I used to think I was perfect. I avoided people
and maintained a protective shell of close friends. Needless to say, I was in trouble.
"Delphi was the light at the end of the tunnel. By doing this program, I was forced
to change how I thought about myself and how I thought about the world. Soon, free
time became passé, and I understood the enjoyment that came from hard work.
I became ever more willing to examine myself for cracks and flaws, and I found many.
It was sometimes tough and sometimes grim, but only because I found them did I improve.
"At Delphi I found myself. I uncovered my true nature and my true potential, and
for that I will be forever grateful."

"In my time at Delphi, I have gained many things, but one of the things that I appreciate
the most is my newly awakened ability to confront life. I am no longer afraid to
go out into the world. I am confident that I can leave my home and tackle anything
that gets in the way of achieving my goals."

"The most important thing that Delphi has helped me to gain is the confidence I
have in myself. The literature program was a great help in realizing my own strengths.
Through reading books such as The Sea Wolf, Atlas Shrugged and Dr.
Zhivago, I realized that every individual has the power to make a difference.
Reading these books, as well as doing great courses, has made me realize that I
too can make a difference."

"Through the program and all of the activities I threw myself into, I grew up to
be the person I wanted to be. This person is courageous and able to stand up for
herself. This person has an endless love of learning and life; this person is me.
"Delphi has prepared me with the ability to boldly face the world and to do what
I want with my life. The world is now my platform, and I am ready to soar."
—Courtney Perkins
