Delphian Chess Team Wins in Corvalis - Goes Undefeated in Intermediate Section
The Delphian School chess club participated in the Fall Colors Chess Team Tournament in Corvalis on Saturday. Players competed in teams of four in matches against teams from other schools. After each match, the results of each of the four games are tallied to determine the winner. Each team played five matches.
Delphian senior Colin Malick, of McMinnville, led the Dragons’ team to victory in the intermediate section of the competition. Playing at the tough first board position, he was personally undefeated in all five of his games. His strong play, along with that of 7th-grader Brett Horton, at second board, freshman Dillon Rivera at third board, and 7th grader Charles Byrne, at board four, helped the team to also achieve a perfect, 5-0 score and the first-place trophy.
